Everone’s facial proportions are different and determined genetically. The proportions of the cheekbones, cheeks and the rest of the face can be corrected or accentuated with a cheekbone correction – augmentation. The facial features look out of balance if the cheekbones are under-developed or hollow.
Sometimes an injectable filler is sufficient to help with this problem. Lipofilling or inserting a subcutaneous cheekbone implant, a prosthesis can sometimes be necessary to achieve the desired results.
- Temporary Fillers
- Permanent Fillers
Most patients first choose treatment with a temporary filler. The effect on the cheekbones lasts between 1 and 2 years, then the treatment can be repeated.
- Transplantation of the patient’s own fat
Our doctors are also specialised in lipofilling – lipostructure treatments. By transplanting the patient’s own fat (lipostructure) we can give more volume to certain areas of the body and face. We usually harvest the fat from the hips (love handles) or the tummy. We can remove up to 1500 cc – 1.5 litres of pure fat which can be transplanted in the desired area.
Cheekbone implant – prosthesis:
- Cheekbone prostheses exist in different shapes and sizes.
Cheekbone lifting or augmentation can also be achieved by inserting a prosthesis or implant. There are different kinds of prostheses (cheekbone implants). The prosthesis is inserted through a small incision in the mouth. This procedure is usually performed under a local anaesthetic in combination with intravenous sedation.
- Cheekbone enhancement using injectables.
- Enhancing the contour of the cheekbones by filing them with the patient’s own fat.
